A sorority enables college women with common interests and goals to live and to work together. It also allows college women to form a sisterhood and to enjoy a close friendship. It is usually affiliated with a national organization which assists the local chapters.

What are some reasons for joining a national sorority?

Some reasons for joining a national sorority are to promote social poise and gracefulness, to share common ideas and spiritual values, to encourage good scholarship, to create lifelong friendships nationwide, to strengthen leadership skills, and to help build a better community nationally and locally.

What does pledging mean?

This is a period where an individual studies the ideas, the history, and goals of the sorority (usually followed by a pledge ceremony).

What are the requirements for joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated?

Undergraduate Requirements - You must be a full time student at an accredited two, three or four year senior college or university. After completing at least one grading period at that school, you must obtain a cumulative and semester average of C+.
